FAQ

Under this page we’ve collected some of the most common questions on how smart products can help you make better and more rewarding products as well as how we at WRLDS work to help you get products to market at minimum risk.

Wrlds is the partner that can help your brand add new digital experiences to your products. We use sensors and AI analysis to turn movements to open up new opportunities such as:
• Track performance and progression with advanced analytics
• Compare and coordinate teams in their real-time physical activities
• In-app play with points, badges, and leaderboards
In addition, our technology can be used for accurate and actionable insights in R&D in testing and validation of new products.
Wrlds are specialized in using sensors and AI to capture, analyze, and interpret movement. Together with our partner network, we provide a full range of services enabling a seamless move from concept to production. By partnering with Wrlds, brands can save time, money, and reduce the risk associated with in-house development.
Digital experiences in sports involve the use of technology to enhance the experience for athletes, coaches, fans, and teams. This can include wearable technology for tracking physical activity, sensors for creating in-stadium experiences, as well as interactive challenges and rewards systems for fan engagement. The goal is to use data collected by sensors to provide a better understanding of user behaviour and preferences to create a more personalized and engaging experience. Another type of experience is to create gamification in ways that could make the use of a product more fun and engaging.
We offer an end-to-end solution with all services needed for transitioning towards connected and smart products. Wrlds specialization is in software, more specifically the sensor platform for motion analysis using ML and AI, so we built a network of partners that can back up with hardware and design. This includes electronics, mechanics, product design and application development, unless a customer doesn’t already have these resources in-house.
Until now, measuring and interpreting movement has been prohibitively expensive or complex. Wrlds makes it possible for any sporting goods brand to adapt technology to start measuring and analysing movement, and use it to create new digital experiences.
Sensors are used to measure movement and motion patterns and once you are able to turn movement into data, it opens up endless opportunity for measuring and analyzing performance that was previousely unavailable.
With “smart” we refer to devices and products that are connected to the internet and able to collect and transmit data from sensors. They often use communication methods such as Bluetooth or SIM cards to send the data to a phone or cloud service. AI and machine learning algorithms are used to interpret and make sense of the data.
Once you add sensors and connectivity, it opens up a world of opportunities such as:
• Being able to measure movement and create digital experiences will be critical to stay relevant to consumers
• Adding sensors and digital experiences to your product portfolio allows you to defend higher price points
• Real time data allows you to understand user patterns throughout the lifetime of the product
• You will be able to create a digital relationship between your brand and the customer
The experiences enabled by smart products can be brought to the customer in many ways, such as:
• Performance tracking: clear and actionable feedback on performance, progress tracking, analytics, and performance comparisons.
• Gamification: fun, motivational and engaging features using of game design with points, badges, and leaderboards.
• Community features: ability to connect and interact with other users, share progress, and get feedback and tips.
• Injury prevention: detect riskful behavior and movement before causing injury
Just by recognizing sensor technology as interesting or useful, you have come a long way. So start with an introduction meeting where Wrlds explains the opportunities and elaborate on the potential business case for your brand.
Our standard platform is focused on measuring movement. For this we use motion sensors that are normally referred to as 3-axis sensors, 6-axis sensors or 9-axis sensors. They include a combination of accelerometer, magnetometer and gyropscope, each measuring in three different axis. With the 9-axis sensor you can measure any type of movement and motion patterns. In addition to motion sensors, our platform is enabled to work with a range of other sensor types that can be added depending on each customer's need. These may be HR sensors, sound, radar, heat and pressure sensors.
We use AI and Machine Learning to train our algorithms to identify different motion patterns that are desired in each user case. Wrlds has developed its own AI pipeline from data capture and labelling to interpretation and deployment of the algorithms.
In the product definition phase, we define the parameters that determine the choice of battery for the product. Parameters that determine battery selection are size, usage and desired battery time.
Short answer is yes. Long answer is that it comes down to what IP level you aim for and how the mechanical encapsulation of the electronics are designed. It is by no means impossible to create a solution that you can bring to Mars or the bottom of the sea.
Wrlds platform is designed to work with Edge AI in the cases where it is relevant to perform the data collection, analysis, and processing in the actual sensor product.
Our standard platform use Bluetooth to transmit data between the sensors and the receiving device which may be a smartphone or a connecting hub.

Before project start

It can feel intimidating transitioning into the digital space, but most of our customers are coming from a purely analog background with no experience of working with digital or electronic technologies. Our role is to guide you through the entire project as an extended R&D team, working closely with your company from concept until a complete certified and commercial product for the mass market.
When you create a new product based on Wrlds platform, you become the product owner of this product. This gives you a unique opportunity to tailor the experience to fully represent your brand which means that you are in charge of the design, pricing and user interface that comes on top of the platform. We are there to support you from idea, through adaptation with our expertise and partner network to move the project from concept to first shipment of a certified product.
You do not have to know. We are happy to book a 45 minute workshop to help you evaluate how the technology can be adapted to your products and how it can help you create new experiences for your customers.
The different project phases are: the Proof of Concept (POC), specification of product and project phase, the adaptation phase, launch phase, and post-launch phase.
The simple answer is yes. Wrlds have been helping brands develop smart sensor products for a long time, and consequently have developed the most optimized processes and most flexible software platform. Once we get to know a brand, we can easily start ideating on opportunities and start testing the concept right away.
You will be as involved as you want to. When the project is running, you are expected to manage all business-related aspects, such as launch planning and marketing activities. Wrlds happily take responsibility of everything technical, unless you feel like using you in-house mechanical designers or app developers. We can be seen as an extended R&D solving the problems you don't have time or interest in solving internally.
The first payment is usually made in conjunction to the signing and start-up of the POC (Proof of Concept), which is a pre-defined fixed cost. All meetings and consultations up until this point are free of charge.

Proof of Concept (PoC)

Once you have an idea of a concept, Wrlds is happy to take an initial meeting to validate that the concept is feasible to deliver with out platform. If yes, we go into a Proof of Concept study were we set up criterias based on your decision criteria, to evaluate the concept against. We then use existing demo products to create AI algorithms on a few data points to test, mock up in a demo app to and demonstrate the POC within 4-6 weeks. Once the POC is completed, you should have the information needed to make a commercial evaluation.
The standard testing typically covers the following modules:
1. A workshop to define objectives, key success factors and decision criteria.
2. Data sampling and analysis using existing sensors or off the shelf modules to validate user cases.
3. UX ideation with mock-up of main screens to represent a possible app concept.
4. Material compilation in a conclusion of one concept direction (or possible alternative directions), including a suggested project scope and recommendatons.
5. Presentation and demo of results.
Depending on the complexity of the testing, focus might have to be allocated differently.
The standard cost for a POC is €7,500, including standard modules for verification of key aspects of the project. For more extensive testing and development outside the scope of standard modules, the cost of the POC can come to be adjusted.
Testing can start as soon as you get the sensors, and recording of data can be done in a day or two. It approximately take 4-6 weeks for our AI engineers to work through the data and during this time it is possible to record new data if necessary.
You as a customer can easily record data by using motion sensors and the Wrlds AI toolbox app, available for both iOS and Android. We make sure you are equipped with the right sensors. You set up sensors according to Wrlds’ instructions and then video record the activity of interest in the app. In some customer cases, Wrlds can record supplementary data if this is needed.

Go to market project

Once the POC study is completed and a decision has been made to go for a commercial implementation, we start with carefully defining the product requirements and set objectives for the commercial product. Once we have that, we define roles and responsibilities, decide on possible 3rd parties to involve and create a detailed project plan. In the adaptation phase, AI algorithms are built on recorded data, electronics and mechanics are designed, cloud solution determined and app is developed. Lastly, the project enters the phases of launching, post-launch and continuous development.
With our licensing model and an existing technology platform in place, you avoid expensive consulting costs. We only charge for pure adaptation work which are predictable and related to the degree of customization/adaptation desired by our customer.
One of the benefits with a digital interface and an app is that the features and user experience can be improved continuously.
